Just thought you'd like to know . . .
Easter, of course, is celebrated by Christians worldwide as the day Jesus rose from the tomb. But did you know the roots of this holiday go back to ancient times and the rituals of ushering in Spring? Even the timing of Easter, is associated with spring. In 325 A.D., the Council of Nice pronounced that Easter would be observed "the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after the Vernal Equinox ..." If the full moon fell on a Sunday, then Easter would be celebrated on the following Sunday.
So the new life of Spring is intimately tied to one of the most important religious holidays of the year. And the symbolism is all around us. Eggs represent new life in just about every civilization, especially those of ancient India and Egypt. Some cultures even believed that the universe developed from a giant egg, with the halves of the cracked shell being heaven and earth. It's only fitting then that we color eggs, hide and find them and then ultimately display them in many forms.
Our beloved Easter Bunny is likewise a symbol of new life as well as one of fertility. While the pair -- the Easter Bunny and Easter -- undoubtedly reach far back in history, the first recorded appearance of the symbol comes from Germany in the sixteenth century. And just as an aside, the Germans were the first to make edible rabbits!
The Easter Bunnies you'll find in our collection aren't edible, but they are lovable and they'll remind your friends, families and loved ones that you are thinking of them not just at Easter, but the entire year! There's not better way to say "Happy Easter!" than with our charming "Bunny Gift" tapestry throw afghan made from 100% cotton. Two rabbits -- one large and one small -- adorn this Easter decor item that reads, "Guess How Much I Love You?"
Of course, they'll be no guessing when your favorite person receives it. He'll know instantly you love him a lot! Keepsakes, Etc.'s "Easter Gift Blanket Throw" is another outstanding and original Easter gift idea! This picturesque and color blanket reminds us that spring is just around the corner as the white rabbits and a variety of garden flowers adorn the item.
You are sure to be remembered when you choose from among our Easter decoration ideas to fill that special Easter basket this year. And remember, Keepsakes, Etc. will include a complimentary gift card and bag with your purchase. It's never been easier to say "Happy Easter!" across the miles!
